- SVEC hosts a Dinner / Auction / Fundraiser for State winning SkillsUSA students. May 10th, 2011
We had so many first-place, gold medal winners at this years state SkillsUSA competition, we've been
overwhelmed! To help send our 15 students to Kansas City to represent SVEC in National skills competition, we're
hosting a chicken dinner on Tuesday, May 24th. Enjoy live music, an auction of student produced goods and
services from the carpentry, horticulture and environmental technology, commercial arts and veterinary classes.

- SVEC students earn industry certification May 25th, 2011
SVEC had students earn industry recognized certifications in two areas this week. At least 25 kids from our carpentry
and electricity classes earned NCCER certification and six students from our commercial arts & digital design class
earned Adobe Certified Associate certification. Excellent job!
- SVEC students represent Florida in National SkillsUSA competition. June 13, 2011
SVEC students who won best in state during SkillsUSA state competition in May are now headed to Kansas City to
compete and represent SVEC and the State Of Florida in National competition. In addition to competing, students
will be attending trade seminars and a Kansas City Royals game.National T-Shirt design winner Andy Schaaf and
instructor Chris Juul will be recognized during the opening ceremonies in front of an estimated 13,000 students.
Should be a blast!

- SVEC Commercial Arts class produces three digital billboards in conjunction with Clear Channel
June 13th, 2011
Commercial Art students Terri Haupt, Mallory Shortway and Glady Elias each had their billboard designs selected
from 29 entries to represent and promote SVEC in a marketing campaign. Each billboard will be showcased on a
new Clear channel digital billboard placed on the corner of Park Blvd and 66th street. Clear Channel
Communications designer Richard Homer and Digital Media Specialist Andrew Fleming visited the class to offer
design advice along the way.




- SVEC students win Bronze and Silver medals at National SkillsUSA competition. June 26, 2011
SVEC students took home third and second places in the entire nation at the SkillsUSA national competition held in
Kansas City Kansas, June 25th. Five teams competed and their results are below. We're extremely proud of our
students for not only representing SVEC, but the state of Florida as well. Way to go!

- Dr. Peter Berry retires from SVEC. June 26, 2011
Dr. Peter Berry announced his retirement recently after serving this past year as Director of Seminole Vocational
Education Center. An article from the Seminole Beacon earlier this year details some of Dr. Berry's
accomplishments.
- SVEC classes resume Monday, August 22nd Aug 10th 2011

- SVEC FFA Chapter Kickoff Cookout at the Seminole Vocational Education Center on Thursday,
Sept. 15th September 7th, 2011
Parents and students in any of the SVEC Vetrinary Horticulture or Environmental Technology classes are invited to
attend the annual FFA Kickoff Cookout! You can meet the instructors and find more about all of the activities the
Seminole Vo-Ed FFA chapter has planned for the year including scholarship information, social activities, volunteer

- SVEC Open House at the Seminole Vocational Education Center on Monday, Sept. 19th August 28th, 2011
The Seminole Vocational Education Center will host friends, students and family at our annual open house,
Tuesday, September 19th at 6:30pm. If you're a parent or student wanting more information about our school,
join us, meet your instructors and tour their labs.

This past weekend Ms. Biram took four students to a sanctioned rabbit breed show

- Seminole residents can recycle at SVEC October 14h, 2011
SVEC is hosts recycling bins for the Seminole community. We gladly accept all kinds of metals, cardboard
and paper. The recycle bins are located off 125th Street (just north of 86th Ave.) on the outer gate of the
SVEC campus. All donations will directly benefit students and programs at the Vo-Ed center.
- SVEC Commercial Arts class hosts Seminole Middle art students October 18h, 2011
SVEC commercial arts is working on a project with the art class at Seminole Middle School. Students provided
pictures of themselves and the commercial arts class is photo retouching them in to zombies, vampires and
other monsters. When complete next week, students from Seminole Middle will pay a visit to SVEC to view
their ghoulish gallery and have a look around our campus. We look forward to more visits from area middle

- Great American Teach-In is Thursday, November 17th. Interested professionals wanted! Oct 17th 2011
Pinellas County Schools is partnering with Progress Energy for the 18th annual Great American Teach on
Thursday, November 17th 2011. Seminole Vo-Ed is looking for interested professionals who would like to tell some
as equally interested trade students about what you do and how you wound up doing it. Our school offers classes
in Carpentry and Construction Trades, Electrical Wiring, Energy, Horticulture and Environmental Technology,
Commercial and Digital Arts and Veterinary Science for small and large animals. If interested, please contact our
program instructors, then fill out this form and email it to JohnsonCas@pcsb.org.

- SVEC environmental tech students place first in state in science competition November 9th, 2011
Ms. Paioff's environmental studies team recently place first in the state during the FFA sponsored Environmental
Science and Natural Resources Career Development Event (CDE). National competition is only 11 months away!

- SVEC Great American teach-In takes place Thursday, November 17th November 14th, 2011
Pinellas County Schools is partnering with Progress Energy for the 18th annual Great American Teach on Thursday,
November 17th 2011. Seminole Vo-Ed will be hosting a variety of professionals who will discuss their job and career
with students. In a first for our campus, the commercial art class will be Skyping with Gerald Casale of the band DEVO!
- The Seminole Vo-Ed FFA Chapter upcoming Plant Sale at the Botanical Gardens in Seminole,
Sunday December 11th Dec 8th, 2011
The SVEC horticulture department students will sell self grown plants on December 11th from 9am-4pm at the
Botanical Gardens in conjunction with the holiday lights in the park event. Varieties will range from 4" container to
7 gallon with prices from $1-$15.
- SVEC holds their annual canned food drive and toy drive to benefit CASA Dec 8th, 2011
If you are interested in donating towards the SVEC annual Toy Drive to benefit CASA, then we
kindly request NEW, unwrapped toys or gifts for kids and teens up to the age of 18 to be donated
by Wednesday December 14th. Our staff will also be collecting canned food items here in the front
office of the SVEC campus until Wednesday, December 14th.
- The Seminole Vo-Ed Center 50th Anniversary / Alumni Reunion on Saturday, January 21st
from 9am to 5pm Jan. 1st, 2012
In recognition of our 50th Anniversary as a school, we're hosting am all alumni reunion celebration. Food, music, hay

- Seminole Vo-Ed FFA Chapter prepares for upcoming Florida State Fair competition Jan 12th 2012
The Seminole Vo-Ed FFA chapter will have several competitors in the Florida State Fair Youth Steer Futurity show
and sale coming up in February 2012. Competition days are February 12th - 13th.
There will also be SVEC student competitors in the 2012Florida State Fair Youth Swine Show and sale.
Competing students will also take an exam during the fair called The Skilathon. The Skilathon is species specific
and is part of the Champion Youth Program.
